Trash Collection

THE FOLLOWING ARE A FEW REMINDERS ABOUT TRASH AND RECYCLABLE COLLECTION: Trash and recyclables will be picked up each Monday (or Tuesday if Monday is a National Holiday). Garbage bags can be placed by the roadside, driveway, alley, or other accessible area no earlier than 5:00 PM the day preceding collection day and no later than 7:00 AM the day of collection. All garbage bags that are securely closed and neither broken nor weighing more than thirty (30) pounds when filled will be picked up. Black bags, cardboard boxes, or loose material will not be picked up. Clear recycle bags, either large or small, must be used for recycling material. Each recycling bag must contain just one type of material: newspapers, glass, plastic, etc.

Yellow garbage bags are $3.00 each or $30 for 10 bags.
Large recycling bags are $1.00 each.
Small recycling bags are $0.50 each.

Both yellow garbage bags and recycle bags (large & small) can be purchased at the following businesses:

• Cuculi’s Bar in Channing
• Happy Camper Kitchen (located at 607 Railroad Ave. in Channing)
• Mini Mart Gas Station in Sagola
• Randville Bar in Randville 
• Silver Lake Resort, North of Channing

LARGE ITEMS: Any large items put out for collection must be accompanied by a yellow township garbage bag. When disposing of carpeting, it must be rolled up and tied, and no longer than 6 feet. The following are exceptions to what large items can be picked up: Items, by virtue of their size or weight, are not reasonably easily moved or transported by commonly available means.

Items that are or contain material not eligible for disposal at the Facility. Examples, but not limited to, the following: construction materials, demolition debris, including, in particular, masonry. Tires, freezers, refrigerators, air conditioners, liquids, and dead and live animals. Mattress and box springs are no longer accepted at the facility. Due to a limited number of mattresses and box springs per day, they will not be collected.

If you have more than one large item to dispose of, please place only one or two items out each week.

We do not pick up Hazardous Materials: Latex paint, but only if the paint if solid (has dried up). Oil-based paint, old household cleaners, glue, caulking, lighter fluids, antifreeze, gas, mercury light bulbs, and thermometers, etc are considered hazardous materials, and we do not pick them up. You can bring them to GAD (Great American Disposal) in Quinnesec, the second Tuesday of every month from 9 to 10 AM.

Garbage collection is every Monday unless that Monday falls on a National Holiday. This year, 2026, Memorial Day and Labor Day are the only days that garbage collection will be the following day (Tuesday May 26th) and (Tuesday September 8th).

If there is an unforeseen circumstance that changes the schedule, we will post it on the Sagola Township website and on the sign next to the Post office in Channing.
